%C%%H2%Short Guide%H2%

See the demonstration text file provided.

1. %H1%ASSUMPTIONS%H1%

    (a) Footnotes may be of any length and can be inserted at any time.
    (b) Final text will be single spaced, with a single blank line
        separating paragraphs.
    (c) The first line of each paragraph will be indented 4 spaces.
    (d) Final wrap width will be 65.
    (e) The footnotes will not be reformatted.
    (f) Separation of footnotes from text, their storage as a separate
document, all necessary renumbering, and "tidying up" of the
text, are designed to be performed in a single operation.

The CLI files can be altered to obtain different effects.

2. %H1%Delimiters%H1%

For identification by the CLI, index figures in the text are enclosed
in angled brackets,<  >; curly brackets, {  }, enclose the footnotes;
the caret, ^, marks points where reformatting is required after removal
of the notes. THESE CHARACTERS MUST NOT APPEAR ELSEWHERE.

3. %H1%Preparation%H1%

    (a) Give Pipedream column "A" a WIDTH of 5; this will be for
        FOOTNOTE NUMBERS only.
    (b) Set column "B" to a WRAP WIDTH of about 75 characters; this is
        for TEXT and NOTES.

4. %H1%To enter a footnote index%H1%

    (a) ENTER THE INDEX DELIMITERS, < >, at the appropriate point in
the text. A number, or other character(s), may be placed
        within the delimiters, if desired.
    (b) (i) If it is new text, press SPACE, as though continuing to
            write.
(ii) If text already exists, move to the start of the next
             word.

 5. %H1%To enter the footnote%H1%

    (a) (i) If the text is new, press ENTER.
(ii) If text already exists, use "<>ESL" and "<>N" to ensure
that the footnote will be in a block by itself.
    (b) Use "<>TAB" to go to column "A" in the new line.
    (c) ENTER THE OPENING DELIMITER, {, for a footnote. It may be
followed by a number, or other character(s), if desired.
    (d) Still on the same line, TAB back to column "B".
    (e) Preferably, enter a cue consisting of the 2 or 3 words
        preceding the index delimiters.
    (f) END WITH A CLOSING DELIMITER, }. The footnote, or a sketch of
        it, may be written first.
    (g) Press ENTER.
    (h) For a new paragraph, enter 4 SPACES followed by a caret, ^;
otherwise simply enter the caret; continue writing text.

6. %H1%To "throw" the footnotes%H1%

    (a) Adjust the CLI master files to suit EXACTLY the number of (i)
footnotes, and, (ii) reformatting points. Save the adjusted
files under new names. Those names must be inserted in the
files where they are to be invoked by the ".*" commands.
TAKE CARE TO PRESERVE THE MASTER FILES.
    (b) Ensure that the typing mode is set to INSERT .
    (c) In the FILER, EXecute the adjusted version of "FNMOVE.CLI".

If your text is long, and footnotes numerous, the ensuing process could
take a considerable time.

The whole process can be aborted by pressing "<>ESC".
