%CO:A,72,0%This PIPEDREAM program was devised as an aid to calculating ceramic
glazes to the unity formula and percentage analysis. If you are
familiar with the unity formula and the calculations of Seger then the
reasoning will require little explanation. If you are not then I
recommend the following books as explanation.

Understanding Pottery Glazes. David Green. Faber 1963

The Potters Dictionary of Materials and Techniques. Frank Hamer. Pitman

For the more advanced and as a very good aid to using computer programs
in helping to formulate ceramic glazes I heartily recommend; Stoneware
Glazes a Systematic Approach. Ian Currie. Bootstrap Press.

To use this program, you enter the name of the ingredient in column A
the appropriate amount in column B, then calculate. PIPEDREAM will
LOOKUP the ingredients and return the values to the bottom columns and
then divide the sum of the oxides found by their molecular weight. the
values are returned to the screen via @fields@.

To calculate in reverse when you have a formula and want to find the
recipe is rather more difficult. There are programs that will do this
for you (eg Dr C Hogg's on the BBC) but I find it quite convenient to
keep trying trial and error until I get the correct result on the
screen.

You can add and subtract the various amounts from column B they do not
have to add up to 100 the checksum in the right hand corner will
automatically give you the percentage recipe. If the checksum returns
black error codes then check that you have spelt the ingredient
correctly. Print out column A (23-65) for the complete list of
ingredients. Most of the Data about the ceramic ingredients is from
"FERRO".

You can of course add your own ingredients and add prices. I suggest
you fix row 22 first and make sure it is number mode on the Options
page. Check the bottom row to make sure that you have not corrupted the
calculation!

Save this CLI as Plain text and use it to print out the chart.

I have found this very useful for using fairly pure ingredients. Ashes
and natural minerals are much too variable for this kind of theoretical
approach

Good luck, I hope you find the spreadsheet useful; if you have any
problems or comments feel free to contact me.
