I. QUICK START INSTALLATION

Before you can print using the IR port, you must install the JetEye driver on
your portable computer. An install program is provided on the JetEye diskette.

1. Place the JetEye diskette into the floppy drive on your portable computer.

2. Select Run from the File menu in the Windows Program Manager.

3. Type A:INSTALL in the Command Line box.

4. Choose OK or press Enter to display the first installation
screen. Follow the on-screen installation instructions.

5. Select the COM port setting of the infrared port. The default interrupt
level (IRQ) and I/O address will display on the screen. Select the
Advanced button if you know the IRQ or port address is different than the
default shown. Press OK to continue with the installation.

NOTE: If you are installing the JetEye driver for COM3 on an HP OmniBook 300,
425, 430, 530 or 600C you MUST select IRQ10 using the Advanced setup
       option.

6. Select the Install button to start the JetEye driver installation. The
Custom button allows you to choose which programs to install and to
    customize the installation directories.

7. Once the JetEye driver has been installed, you will need to reboot your
computer to activate the driver. Exit Windows and press CTRL + ALT +
    DELETE to reboot. Restart Windows.

8. To print, position your portable computer's infrared port in-line with the
infrared port on the HP LaserJet 5P/5MP. They must be lined up within one
meter (39 inches) of each other. Make sure your computer is set to print
out its infrared port before printing. You are now ready to print as usual
    from within your application.

If you encounter problems trying to print from the infrared port:

	- Verify COM port and address setting for infrared port.
	- Verify settings match address specified for JetEye driver.
	- Verify that your printer is properly configured to print to
	  the infrared port.

II. COMMON QUESTIONS

How far away can my portable computer be from the printer?

Your portable computer should be lined up within 1 meter (39 inches) of the
infrared port on the printer.

Why does my print job not print?

If you are unable to print, your problem may be related to distance, setup, or
communication.

Distance: Your portable computer and the printer must be lined up within 1
meter (39 inches) of each other in order to print. Move the devices closer and
try again.

Setup: Make sure you have installed the JetEye Drivers floppy on your
computer. After installing, you will need to reboot your computer before you
start printing.

Communication: There may be a communication problem between the printer and
the JetEye.

Verify the following:

	- printer is powered-up and online
	- printer is properly configured
	- proper printer driver is installed.
	- portable computer is set to print out it's infrared port

III. GENERAL INSTALLATION INFORMATION

During installation:

	- the following files are copied to the hard drive:

		IRJETEYE.SYS; the IrDA protocol driver
JETUTIL.EXE; program to disable/enable JetEye driver (DOS
			       program)

	- the CONFIG.SYS file is modified to load the JetEye driver.

		SYNTAX: device=c:\irjeteye.sys COM#; where # = 1, 2, 3 or 4

	- the WIN.INI file is modified to allow printing through DOS.

Custom Installation options:

Copy driver to -

This option copies the JetEye driver, IRJETEYE.SYS to the specified directory.
The default is: C:\

To store the JetEye driver in another directory, enter the full path name of
the directory you wish to use in the edit box. The directory you name must
already exist. For example if you had created a directory called JETEYE you
would enter: C:\JETEYE\

NOTE:	If you do not select this option, Install will not
copy the JetEye driver onto your PC. You will
need to copy the JetEye driver yourself. You must
have the JetEye driver on your PC before you can
		print over infrared.

Modify CONFIG.SYS file -

Your original CONFIG.SYS will be saved as CONFIG.BAK. The install program
adds the JetEye driver name to the devices listed in your CONFIG.SYS file.
It adds the following line to the end of your CONFIG.SYS file:

	DEVICE=[path name]IRJETEYE.SYS [IR port]

Where [path name] is the directory where the JetEye driver is located and [IR
port] identifies the infrared port: COM1, COM2, COM3 or COM4. For example:
DEVICE=C:\IRJETEYE.SYS COM2 should be used on a PC where the infrared device
is attached to COM2.

NOTE:	If you do not select this option, you will need to
add the device line to your CONFIG.SYS file yourself.
This line must be present in order to activate the
JetEye driver when you reboot your PC.

Modify WIN.INI file -

Your original CONFIG.SYS will be saved as CONFIG.BAK. The install program
will insure the "Fast Print to Port" option is not selected in your printer
configuration.

NOTE:	If you do not select this option, you should
verify the state of the "Fast Print to Port" check
box before doing any infrared printing.

 			- Open the Control Panel
			- Double click on the Printer icon
			- Choose Connect. (The "Fast Print to Port"
check box is in the lower left corner of
			  the Connect dialog box.)
			- Verify the check box is not selected.

Copy driver utility to -

This option copies the JetEye utility JETUTIL.EXE to the specified directory.
The default is: C:\

To store the JetEye utility in another directory, enter the full path name of
the directory you wish to use in the edit box. The directory you name must
already exist. For example, if you had created a directory called JETEYE you
would enter: C:\JETEYE\

NOTE:	If you wish to conserve storage space on your PC,
do NOT select this option. The utility file is
about 8K. The JetEye utility can be used enable
and disable the driver and check the current
status of the driver. The JetEye utility is
optional, it is necessary to disable the JetEye
driver only when the COM port is not to be used as
		an infrared port.
