Hello,

I bought me a little Tandy 1500HD LapTop a few days ago, which
naturally came complete without a manual. Being new to both
Tandy computers and laptops in general I find myself gazing at
a few obviously useful features on this tiny jewel, and not
having a clue as to what Im looking at. <g> Therefore I was
wondering if some kind soul might help me figure out a few
things. Theres a few keys on this unit that Im not familiar
with. Ive figured out that the Fn key acts like a Shift Key
to some other like colored keys, and even what a few of them are
for. But not all. Thus I ask, what are the functions of the
Standby and ScrLk/KeyPad keys? And, what is the function of
the PrtSc/SysRq key? (I know about the print screen part BTW.)

I believe Function + Standby shuts down the display and the hard
drive until you use the keyboard again.
I believe, except for the variations in screen displays, all the
other buttons relate to saving battery power, which is why you
(or I) did not see them on your trusty desktop machine.

Another question, relating to the (naturally dead) battery. What
is the little switch on the battery pack for (that shows a small
red dot in one position)?

The red dot "switch" is for your use to help you remember that
you have charged the battery, no electrical function whatsoever.
Batteries Plus ( a chain of full service battery stores around
the country) get $78 + tax.

Also, is there more than likely something wrong with the speaker,
or is the sound quite low in volume on all of these machines?

Not qualified to comment other than my 2810HD is also quite
softspoken.

Lastly: Is there any way that I reverse the screen colors on
this pup? (I.e. switch the screen to a negative image.)

My suggestion is to use the faxback service at 1 800 323 6586.
Get an index first, then locate your machine then faxback the
owners manual (user's guide) in bite size pieces provided by the
faxback service. Alternatively, contact Tandy publications
(Product Support Center) and they will copy the manual for you,
for a small charge, at 1 817 390 3861 (Terri Lynn Carey). There
is a general number of 1 800 THE SHACK. You might try Tandy
National Parts at 1 800 433 2024 to see if they have any original
manuals gathering dust.

Id really appreciate any tips offered,

Charles

Best wishes for success with your new "toy"

Bill

Hi Bill,

<< Best wishes for success with your new "toy"

Thanks a bunch for all the useful tips. I really like this
little machine, in spite of the fact that "DOOM" won't run on it.
(Which is just FINE by me anyway.) (:

Charles
