Does ANYONE still use the basic Tandy 1000 Personal Computer, a
BIG 384K [truly!] and no hard drive or at least I couldn't find
one ... and a 5 1/4 floppy with a DMP 130 Printer? A coworker
has owned this for some 10 years ... apparently spending
something like $1000 when new and then around $500 for the memory
upgrade to 384K CAN YOU BELIEVE and hasn't used this but maybe 10
hours in 10 years!!!!!! It looks like brand new ...

Now he asked my advice about selling it ... I told him it would
bring next to nothing ... but I would check in this forum to see
if there were some uses of this equipment that I haven't actively
considered to make this somehow useful to retain for him and
finally get to using ... maybe others might recommend some
programs that might make this valued ... Maybe there are some
here in Compuserve I can take down for him ???:

or ... if anyone wants to offer him something to make w
hwhile for him to pack up and mail ... write of that too ... The
RGB Colored Monitor looks lovely and big ... as I recall it said
a CM-2 Tandy Monitor ... something like that ...

I'd enjoy receiving ideas from y'all in Compuserve Tandy
1000 land!!!!! I own myself Model 100,102,600 and 1400HD Tandy's
... but I can't quite get enthused for this Tandy 1000 unless I'm
missing something ...

Looking forward to hearing from others ...

Calvin,
Your intuition is right, I think. Your friend's 1000 and
DMP130 are not worth much on the market. In fact, I've seen them
for $25 at Goodwill on occasion.
One approach: Some folks donate them to a charitable cause and
write them off on their tax returns. I don;t pretend to
understand that process and wouldn't want to advise anyone on
that, but that might be something he'd want to do.
Regards,
Bernie

Calvin,

I just sold a 386/SX20 with a 30MB hard drive, 2 MB memory,
3.5/HD floppy and got $100. SO your Tandy 1000 is worth almost
nothing. One suggestion....he might have better luck selling the
unit to a amateur radio operator. I'm a ham also and old units
like that, provided there is a working serial port, can be used
in our hobby. This will not increase the value of the
1000...only provide a potential number of buyers.

Good luck,

Richard Bauer

The monitor is still useful.

The CPU is a doorstop.

Without a harddrive-you can't do anything. I have a box full of
the old 360k drives that I throw in any XT machine that I work on
that only has one drive-just to get rid of them...
If it has a 720k FD-they are worth $5 each.

I pick up used CGA's for $10-$15 to use with machines that have
hard drives.
