Hi,

System here is a Tandy 4016SX, 4MB RAM, DOS 6.22/Windows 3.1, 1
HD floppy, a tape drive in the 5.25 bay and an empty 3.5 bay. I
have 1 expansion slot open in the rear.

I've noticed...maybe this isn't news to anyone else...that most
software seems to be on CD-ROM these days. I just returned from
a browse at my local CompUSA and found a very small number of
software packages containing discs. I can get a relatively
inexpensive internal CD-ROM for my empty 3.5 bay but I'm
concerned about it running properly. Is 4MB RAM enough? How
much memory will the drivers consume? Are expansion cards
necessary? Can the 4016SX really handle the CD-ROM? I can't add
any more memory to the machine without adding a RAM card in the
expansion port...if I do that AND an expansion card is needed
then I'm dead in the water.

Many of the clerks at these stores won't venture an opinion once
they learn my machine is a Tandy. I'm quite happy with it and
have no need or desire to change. But at the same time it seems
to be getting harder and harder to find Windows 3.1 software much
less software on disc.

Looking forward to the comments.
