NAiS Pentium Flaw Detector
version 4.00

SYNTAX: 586TEST [param]
[param] can be anything. Nothing is displayed; only a RETURN value
is returned. For use with batch files.

RETURN VALUES: 0 if no flaw is detected
1 if a flaw is detected
2 if no FPU is detected

I wrote this utility (in C) so that when I buy a Pentium (if ever), I know if
it has the Pentium flaw or not. Copy 586TEST.EXE to a floppy diskette and bring
it with you to the store. Check to see if the Pentium is "flaw-free", by
running 586TEST on the Pentium. (You never know if the store is trying to sell
you a flawed Pentium even if they say that it is flaw-free!)

This utility has been tested several times on a flawed Pentium. It now has the
ability to detect if the FPU (Floating Point Unit - The chip that has the flaw
on "flawed" Pentiums) has been disabled. You must enable the FPU before
starting the test. Otherwise the FPU cannot be tested; since it is disabled
(BIOS software, DIP switches, and utility software are all possible causes for
the disablement of a FPU.)

If you already have a Pentium, use this utility to see if you have the bug or
not.

Call Intel at 1-800-628-8686 or 1-916-356-3551 (international) for a
replacement chip if you have a flawed Pentium.

You are free to include the NAiS(R) Pentium Flaw Detector with other programs.
Please include this text file when doing so.
