[Properties]

Mercury is a heavy, silver-white metal that is in its liquid state at
ordinary room temperature. When it is cooled to its freezing point, mercury
looks and feels much like common lead.
Mercury is a poor conductor of heat, but a rather good conductor of
electricity. It alloys easily with a number of different metals to form a
family of commercially useful alloys known as amalgams.
Mercury is the lowest and heaviest of the Group-IIB metals on the
periodic table of the elements.
