TechSpeed Upgrade Drivers
Copyright 1998 by Times2 Tech

THESE PROGRAMS ARE ONLY FOR USE BY TECHRAM CUSTOMERS, OR
BY THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN GIVEN PRIOR CONSENT BY TIMES2 TECH.

Description
-----------

These programs (RDT2T.EXE, RDSWAP.EXE) are written specifically
for use with Times2 Tech's Larger TechRAM Upgrades. They
perform the functions of initializing the RAMdrive, allowing
access to the RAMdrive, and swapping the drive letter of the
RAMdrive to the C: drive.

Installation
------------

These instructions should only be used if you have lost access
to your RAMDrive drive:

1) Copy all of the TechRAM driver files to the root of the
   original C: drive.

2) Only run this step if you think the contents of your
   RAMdrive has been wiped by power loss or you just wish to
   totally initialize the RAMdrive. Otherwise you can skip
   down to step 3.

   Go to a DOS prompt and run the RDT2T.EXE program to
   initialize the RAMdrive for the first time. This program
   performs the same function as the "Initialize RAM Disk?
   Enter Y or N:" question you see when you perform a cold boot
   of your palmtop (SHIFT-CTRL-ON key combo).

   Please note that the routine built in to the palmtop to
   initialize the original C: drive does not initialize the
   new RAMdrive. You have to run the RDT2T.EXE program to
   initialize the RAMdrive which will totally wipe out its
   contents. Also note that if you lose battery power and
   the RAMdrive is wiped out, you will need to run the
   RDT2T.EXE program again.

3) Add the following line to the end of your CONFIG.SYS
   file:

      DEVICE=\RDT2T.EXE

4) Reboot the palmtop to run the driver from your CONFIG.SYS.
   You should notice a copyright banner displayed for the
   driver if the driver has been installed correctly otherwise
   it will display an error.

5) Once you have rebooted the palmtop and your new RAMdrive
   shows up as the next available drive letter in your palmtop,
   you might want to consider setting up the RDSWAP.EXE program
   in the beginning of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file or as the last
   DEVICE line in your CONFIG.SYS. That way you can use the
   new RAMdrive as your main C: drive and System Manager will
   store all its files in the \_DAT directory on the new C:
   drive.

   If you put DEVICE=C:\RDSWAP.EXE as the last DEVICE line
   in your CONFIG.SYS you won't need a copy of your
   AUTOEXEC.BAT on the original C: drive and you won't need
   a copy of your CONFIG.SYS on the new RAMdrive. If you
   use this configuration you do not need to read the rest of
   this section.

   If you put the RDSWAP.EXE program in the beginning of
   your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, then make sure you duplicate the
   AUTOEXEC.BAT file exactly between the old and new C:
   drives. This is necessary since DOS reads the AUTOEXEC.BAT
   file 1 line at a time and will switch over to reading it
   from the new C: drive after the RDSWAP.EXE program has
   run.

   Another options is to just have an AUTOEXEC.BAT file on
   the original C: drive that just contains all the lines
   up to and including the RDSWAP line. As long as those
   first few lines match the lines in your AUTOEXEC.BAT on
   the new RAMdrive, you can just edit and change the
   AUTOEXEC.BAT file on the RAMdrive without having to mirror
   it to the original C: drive.

   Flashcard users who boot with an AUTOEXEC.BAT and
   CONFIG.SYS from the flashcard don't need to worry about
   mirroring the AUTOEXEC.BAT files. You can just include
   the RDSWAP line in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file on your card
   and it will continue to run that AUTOEXEC.BAT file even
   after the RDSWAP program runs since it only affects the
   RAMdrive and the original C: drive.

Example CONFIG.SYS on Original C: drive
---------------------------------------

REM The next line is for speed upgrade customers only
device=c:\spd31.exe
buffers=20
files=40
lastdrive=J
device=c:\rdt2t.exe
REM The next line is for users with the TREMM driver installed only
device=c:\tremm.exe
device=c:\rdswap.exe

Warnings
--------

1) Your battery usage time is reduce anywhere from 10-25%
   according to usage. It has been shown to not take much
   more power than the 8MB upgrade.
