                 Icon selector for AppManager
                     SELICN Version 1.00
              Copyright (C) 1995 Hiroyuki Sekiya

[1] What is SELICN?

When you add an EXM application to AppManager, you can assign
an icon to it. However, you have to prepare an icon file
with the same name as the EXM file, with the file type of
.ICN, and place it in the same directory. This program
SELICN makes this job much easier. It enables the browsing
of any directories for an ICN file and its addition to the
  AppManager.

[2] Hardware/Software requirement

This program works on the System Manager of the 100/200LX.

[3] Installation

Add selicn.exm to MoreEXM. If you use EXkey, you can use any
key for its start key, since the key is substituted by EXkey.
My recommendation is to use an unused key from [ALT]+[1] to
  [9].

Since it is cool to have the SELICN window to overlap the
AppManager screen. set the MoreEXM option to 'do not clear
the screen at startup'. Moreexm.ini should have a following
line, when you add SELICN with a start key of [ALT]+[6]:
          a:\bin\selicn.exm,7D00,1,SELICN
where a:\bin is the directory to hold the program file
selicn.exm, 7D00 is the key code for [ALT]+[6] and '1' is
  'Suppress clear-screen' option.

If you are using EXkey under JKIT (Japanese language kit),
you can select an icon with [SHIFT]+[ENTER] within AppManager
by adding the following definition to you exkey.ini.
          <App Manager>
          {Shift+Enter}={Alt+6}

Please refer to the documentations of MoreEXM and EXkey, if
you are not sure how to use them.

[4] Usage

Within AppManager, select the EXM application you like to
modify the icon for and press the start key for SELICN
([SHIFT]+[ENTER] in the example above). SELICN starts and
displays the following dialogbox. The [ICN] area at upper
right corner shows the selected icon image. You can view
  this image for icon selection.

          +------------------------------------------+
          | Select Icon File |
          |~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~|
          | File to Open [*.ICN ] +---+ |
          | Directory: A:\ICN |ICN| |
          | Files Directories +---+ |
          | +-------------+ +-------------+ |
          | |123.ICN | |.. | [ OK ] |
          | |123R5J.ICN | |[-A-] | |
          | |1TARO4.ICN | |[-B-] | [Cancel] |
          | |1TARO5.ICN | |[-C-] | |
          | +-------------+ +-------------+ |
          +------------------------------------------+

Select an icon and press [ENTER]. SELICN copies the
full path name of the icon file to the clipboard and
stuffs the key buffer with the following key strokes.
          {F3}{Alt+P}{Paste}{Alt+I}{Esc}{F3}{F10}

After the screen is refreshed a few times, the icon
will be changed to your selection.

[5] If you have a trouble

If you failed to set a new icon with SELICN, please go
  through the following check list.

o Did you chose a custom icon?

Within the icon selection window in AppManager, you should
not chose a standard icon, such as cougar, graph or DOS
prompt, but you should chose a custom icon.

o Didn't you try to change an icon for a built-in
    application?

Since AppManager can not change icons for built-in
applications such as Filer or Phonebook, SELICN also does
not work for them. If you want to change icons of the
built-in applications, you need to use the utility ICE.

o Didn't you try to change an icon on SMMx?

The procedure SELICN uses for adding a new icon is valid
only for AppManager. It does not work for SMMx. You do
not need such an utility as SELICN for SMMx, which is more
flexible than AppManager in selection of an icon file.

[7] History of this software

This software was originally developed as one of the 9 new
programs bundled with the book "HP200LX Software Bible",
co-authored by Hiroyuki Sekiya and Hirotaka Hamada, published
by Softbank, Tokyo, in April 1996 (ISBN4-89052-911-X). As
such, the programs should not be distributed on networks nor
regarded as freeware. In short, you needed to buy the book
  to use them.

Fortunately the book received an enthusiastic acceptance
within the HP200LX user community in Japan and it reached an
out-of-print status two years after its publication, in 1998.
Now that the book is no more available easily, the author of
these programs decided to release them as copyrighted
  freeware.
