And now, for something completely different..........

Today we have the Node Manager. Please open your hymnal to

afsetup | node manager and sing along....

How do you like this screen? I've known how to use the ASCII codes to
draw for a long time. As a matter of fact before I know that there was
a program called THEDRAW I drew batchfile menus using the ASCII codes
and Ansi esc codes in DOS's EDIT.COM. Slow but very educational. That
was to much trouble for this project so I've just been using = and | and
- to draw these screens in the first 5 messages. Yesterday though, I
came across this really neat little .COM file call SNIPPER that is a TSR
and you can capture any part of a screen and hold it in a buffer and
insert it into your editor. This is a direct screen capture of asetup |
node manager. Instead of typing this out I just loaded asetup and
activated SNIPPER, drew a box around the part of the screen I wanted to
capture, quit ASETUP and fired up SEdit, positioned the cursor where I
wanted to draw the screen and hit the keys to execute the re draw and
voila! there it was. Cool, huh?

Anyway, Back to the node manager.

Pretty straight forward. System address and Name of the SysOp are just
what you'd think, the name address of the node that you will be sending
to or receiving files from. You should put all your uplinks and your
downlinks in here.

Route via If you want to send the files and announcements directly to
this node or hold them for the node to pick up leave this
            line blank.

File echo password and AREAmgr password are passwords that you and your
link setup to allow him access to your ALLfix and AREAMgr
or you to his if he is your uplink. They can be the same
or you don't have to use both or either on for that matter,
as long as you both do the same. I don't usually use File
echo passwords but I do use AREAMgr passwords. When the
Downlink sends an ALLFIX request the AREAMgr password is
what goes in the SUBJECT line of the header.
Authorized Groups are the groups that this node is allowed access to. In
this case this is my uplink for Fido file echos which is
group 3 that we set up in the Group manager the other day.

Aka Matching Set this way and allfix will look in the System Data file
to match AKA (This was one of the first things we set up
              the other day)
Mail Archive Status is for mailers other than PCBfido and QFront, which
             so set it to none.
Direct Should any netmail generated by AllFix for this system be
sent directly or routed. Yes sets the Direct flag. You
need to be sure that the set up for these nodes in PCBFido
has the Absolute hold flag set if you are setting this
toggle to yes. That way the netmail is held until they
             call you.
TIC file mode There are 3 choices here. None, Normal or Advanced.
None is for nodes that don't use a file tosser at all.
Normal is the regular TIC file and Advanced has a lot more
information included in it. This node must have advanced
set in his node manager also if you choose advanced here.
packing mode Three choices here also. No packing send each tic and it's
file as a separate file. Pack TICS sends separate files
but packs all the tics into an archive. Pack All Files
packs all the files and all the Tics into one archive to
send to this node. I don't pack because most other nodes
don't. the tics are small and the files are already
             zipped for the most part.
Include Template. Answer yes if you want to send a netmail notification
along with the tic and its file. Warning. it generates a
separate netmail message for each file/tic that it sends.
It annoys me to get a bunch of little netmail notifications
when I knew the files came in anyway cause I've already
looked at the logs. Some File echo tossers (DWTIC)
generate a message in the main message base when they
receive files so this is double annoying for those sysops.
Send notify list. If you set this to yes then Allfix will generate a
list of all new files on you system to this node. This
notify list will include all files, not just the files in
File echos he is subscribing to. I usually set this to no
because they can set it to yes themselves by sending a
             %NOTIFY request to AREAmgr.
Forward Requests. If this node sends an AREAMGR request to your system
for an file echo that you don't already carry do you want
your system to forward the request to your uplink?
Allow auto add. If this system requests a file echo that you don't
currently carry and it is forwarded by your system to you
uplink should ALLFIX create a new file area on your system
for the file echo or treat it as a pass through area.
Remote maintenance. Do you want to allow this node to do file echo
             maintenance on you system?
Compression Type. if you choose to pack the tic or all the files in the
switch above what kind of compression program do you want to
            use?
Cost sharing. I don't know anything about this cause I don't charge any
of my downlinks for my services. (yet) <G>

Until we meet again....
