original text follows...

This is a Sound Font bank (for the Creative Labs AWE family of soundcards, as
if you didn't know) in SF2 format and is organized as follows:

GM bank
GS drumset
Bank 1 - Bass sounds
Bank 2 - One shots (non-looped melodic sounds)
Bank 3 - Sustain (looped sounds)
Bank 4 - Non-melodic percussive sounds
Bank 5 - SFX

The entire bank uses 8031k of AWE RAM. Without the bonus sounds, (just the
GM bank and GS drumset) the bank uses 7577k of AWE RAM, which leaves 615k
(assuming you have 8 meg of RAM on your AWE) for user banks. Some of the
samples in the bonus banks are shared by the GM bank and GS drumset, so
although the bonus banks are 2563k in their own right, they only add 454k
when combined with the GM and GS drumset banks.

Why did I include bonus banks in a GM/GS drumset bank? Well, why not? As the
GM/GS drumset sections left a small amount of room, I tried to pack in as
much as I could. However, you can delete the bonus sound banks and save it as
another bank so that you can have a good GM/GS drumset bank and still load
most of the user banks that come with the Sound Font based tunes out there
on the Net.

Please note that some of the sounds in the bonus banks do not cover the
entire key range (assuming that you're using a standard 61 or more key
keyboard). This is not an error - it's deliberate. I've set the key range
on some of the sounds so that they do not respond to some of the upper keys
as the AWE32 will not allow samples to stretch upwards by more than 2 octaves
from the root key. I have resampled some of the samples at a higher pitch to
avoid this problem, but not all the samples could be fixed this way
(resampling at a higher pitch often produces undesirable artifacts, depending
on the individual sample and on how far it's stretched). This problem could
have been fixed by multi-sampling, but I didn't have multi-samples to work
with in most of the bonus sounds and it would have taken up much more room
anyway. However, none of the GM sounds suffer from this problem - they all
cover the standard 61 note key range.

I've also included a few MIDI files which show what this bank is capable of
(they only use the GM/GS Drumset, not the bonus banks).

But wait...there's more - a free set of steak knives:-) Well, not really, but
I have also included a Cakewalk instrument definition file (UltraGM+.ins).
Just load this into Cakewalk and *voila*, the names of the "patch" will
magically appear in the Cakewalk will magically appear in the track pane. As
well as this, it has all of the AWE32's controllers, RPN (there's only 1
RPN - pitch bend sensitivity) and NRPN's.

If you distribute this bank, please do so without any modifications and
include the entire package ie. the bank, MIDI files, .ins file and this text
file.
