___________
WWW/LX Plus

This file (README) contains a brief introduction to the suite
of D&A products that let you access the Internet from your
Palmtop. It also explains the individual parts of the suite
and directs you to where to look for information about the
installation and setup of all the parts.

Note that you can download all the software from
http://www.dasoft.com. However, without a valid license, you
can only transfer 16k of data per session. To obtain a full
license, you must register the product as described in the
documentation for POST/LX (POSTDOC.TXT in the archive
POST2.EXE) or obtain a license from a dealer. The license
will be valid for all products of the D&A Internet suite
WWW/LX Plus.

============
INTRODUCTION

With this product you have a sophisticated solution for
Internet access using your HP Palmtop. The WWW/LX Plus
package contains the program to connect to your ISP (Internet
Service Provider), to send and receive Email, to send and
receive Newsgroups articles, and to manage the messages and
folders of messages, setup configuration of the programs, and
finally, to register the demo product with D&A Software, Inc.
to activate WWW/LX to its full power.

WWW/LX is a software product produced by D&A Software, Inc.
It is designed for use on the HP 100LX, HP 200LX, and the HP
OmniGo 700LX. WWW/LX also works on DOS-based desktop
machines.

WWW/LX consists of a program that handles the communication
with your ISP and Internet (the "TCP/IP Engine"), a program
that "paints" World Wide Web (WWW) documents on the screen of
the Palmtop (HV), a program that manages on the screen the
email items (sent and received) as well as sent and received
Newsgroup articles. There are also programs that manage the
communication with the email servers at your ISP, and
Newsgroup server at your ISP.

The World Wide Web consists of documents posted on computers
all over the world. Their location is given by a URL
(Universal Resource Locator). When you "open a location or
file" on the Internet, you really provide the Browser with
the "address" (URL) of the document. The document is then
retrieved and placed on your computer, interpreted and
"painted" on the screen, for you to see.

Newsgroups can be thought of "bulletin boards" for messages.
There are Newsgroups for almost any imaginable topic, several
thousands. You may read messages posted by others on a
specific topic in a Newsgroup dedicated to that topic, as
well as post your own contributions. Some Newsgroups have a
limited readership of a few people, others are read by as
many as hundreds or thousands of people. (If you post,
remember that: It is like writing in the front page of a very
large newspaper! Discretion with what and how you say things
is always recommended!)

Many people now have an email address, referring to an
electronic mail address. That means other people can
communicate to you by email, similar to postal mail, except
many times faster.

The communication protocol of Internet is called TCP/IP. It
makes sure that computers connected to internet talk to each
other and exchange information. Program WWW.EXE is in charge
of the communication.

The same program also performs the necessary functions to
talk to your modem and provide it with the information
required to dial to your ISP.

The login process requires an exchange of information between
your computer and the server computer at your ISP (your login
id and password, for example). This information is exchanged
during the login process in a specific sequence, or "script".
Program WWW.EXE also performs the function of scripting.

Lastly, the programs that receive services from WWW.EXE are
called "clients". These programs request services from
WWW.EXE. For example, HV requests from WWW.EXE to obtain a
certain Web page (WWW document). WWW.EXE services this
request by communicating it to your ISP, and then on to the
computer where the document is located, which could be on the
other side of the world.

POST.EXE is another such "client" program, which manages the
email requests with WWW.EXE. NEWS.EXE manages the Newsgroup
requests.

Where To Find Information and Help

First and foremost you can find the information in the
documentation files. Within the applications and within the
setup programs, you can also press F1 to get online help.
Assuming you will most likely use WWW/LX on your Palmtop and
that you do not want to carry heavy paper manuals together
with your mobile tool, we focused our effort on online
documentation instead of paper documentation.

The Web page of D&A Software, Inc. has many FAQ (Frequently
Asked Questions) items (and of course, the answers) at
http://www.dasoft.com, follow the Support link.

You may send us Email to support@dasoft.com with problem
descriptions.

We also have a continuous presence in the HPHAND forum of
Compuserve, as well as a large group of experienced beta
testers and customers, as well as the developers, of course.

Installation Quick Guide

The installation and setup process is fairly simple. We assume
that you already copied the following files to your Palmtop
and have put them into a new directory. These files are self
extracting archives, which means they contain inside
themselves several other files, as well as the mechanism to
extract these enclosed files.

 POST2.EXE The archive for POST/LX (POST.EXE, NEWS.EXE
              and support programs) version 2.0
HV21.EXE The archive for HV version 2.1
 WWW12.EXE The archive for WWW.EXE version 1.2

1. Download the above files from http://www.dasoft.com. If you
bought the product from a dealer, you may have a diskette with
these files.

2. Place the files in a new subdirectory on the Palmtop.

3. Run HV21.EXE. This will extract the files for HV.

4. Read the documentation for HV, in file HVDOC.TXT. You may
print this file for your own usage.

5. Set up HV as described in the documentation.

6. Run program WWW12.EXE, to extract the files in it.

7. Read the documentation for WWW, in file WWWDOC.TXT. You may
print this file for your own use.

8. Run program WWWSETUP.EXE to setup the connection
information required for WWW.EXE. This process will tell
WWW.EXE about your ISP, about your modem, your login id,
password and other details necessary to establish a proper
communication with the ISP.

9. After WWW is set up, you can login and browse the Internet
by using the combination of WWW.EXE and HV.EXE as the Browser!

Once this is successful, the only remaining steps are to set
up the email and News. These programs use WWW.EXE to connect
to the ISP, and presumably this was successful when you
browsed the Web in Step 9.

10. Run program POST2.EXE to extract the files needed for
email and Newsgroups support.

11. Read the instructions in the file POSTDOC.TXT. You may
print this file for your own use.

12. Run program SETUP.EXE. This program guides you step by
step, asking for the information necessary to configure the
Email and Newsgroups.

13. If you wish, you may delete the following files to
conserve space on the Palmtop storage:

 POST2.EXE
 WWW12.EXE
 HV21.EXE

Register Your Copy - Get a FULL License

Once Post/LX is set up, you may test it. What you have is the
full version program. Its ONLY limitation is that it can send
and receive up to 16K, then it stops. You must restart it
before it will function again.

If you bought your copy from a dealer, you also received a
License Certificate with all the information necessary to
remove the limitation of 16K transfer.

Why Register and License the Program?

One obvious reason is to be able to transfer more than 16K of
data per session! This limitation is a hassle. Clearly, 16K is
enough to test the program, even browse the WWW. But if you
require more serious work than that, you must register your
copy, and pay for the license.

Another reason is that if you register your copy, you will
receive notifications when we make changes to the product, or
upgrade certain components of it. We will NOT send you any
solicitations, or "spam" you with unwanted email. The only
purpose is to notify you about development in the product. We
do not sell our mailing lists.

If you purchased the package from a dealer, you may have
noticed that your Registration information has some strange
words, and you may wish to "personalize" this information.
you may register your product with D&A Software, Inc. and we
will gladly customize the Registration to suit your needs.
This service is free to customers who purchased a copy from a
dealer.

See POSTDOC.TXT for details about the registration process.

=========
The Files

A word about the function and relationship of the programs and
files:

WWW.EXE - this program performs the connection function with
your ISP. It is also called a "TCP/IP Engine". The
communication protocol of the internet is TCP/IP.
This program is in charge of the connection to the
internet. For example, it will pass along requests on
behalf of the Email component (POST.EXE) or the HTML
Viewer component (HV), but it treats them both as
requests for service from the Internet.

WWWSETUP.EXE - This program is responsible for setting up the
parameters that describe the connections you may have
to the internet. You may have a single account with
one ISP, or many. This program will help you setup
each of these connections (we call these "Setups").
         It edits file WWW.CFG. WWWSETUP.EXE creates a WWW.CFG,
if one does not exist in the subdirectory.

WWW.CFG - This file is the configuration file for WWW.EXE. This
is a plain text file, but we encourage you to NOT EDIT
it directly. Many errors which our customers
experience in connections are traced back to incorrect
         direct editing of this file.

NOFIDDLE.COM - This program is provided for you to help in
preventing System Manager from interfering with the
serial ports during a communication session under
System Manager. You need to run this program once when
you boot the Palmtop, so its place is in the
         AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

HV.EXE - This program formats WWW documents and displays them
on the Palmtop screen. It works with WWW.EXE to obtain
the documents from the internet. Together, both
programs constitute a Web Browser. HV can also work by
itself to display Web documents downloaded and placed
         in the Palmtop.

HV.CFG - This file contains the parameters that define how HV
will work on your Palmtop. See the documentation for
HV (HVDOC.TXT) for more information on this file.

HV.HOT - This file contains your list of "Hot links", the WWW
links that you most often visit. Other browsers call
this list "bookmarks". You can add and delete to this
         list directly from within HV.

*.HFN - Various file names with extension HFN. These are the
font files utilized by HV to format headers and text
         in the Web document display.

*.HTM - these are HTML documents that HV formats and displays.

POST.EXE - This program encompasses two functions: It sends
and receives Email items and it also manages the
message display on the screen and in folders. The
program can manage several Email addresses in one
session (dialing once to an ISP and collecting Email
from several Email addresses). It manages the
messages in several folders, allowing filtering of
messages to appropriate folders based on keywords.
You can also use this program to create folders for
Email items (and Newsgroups articles). POST.EXE
manages Email messages as well as Newsgroups articles.

SETUP.EXE - This program sets up the parameters required for
POST.EXE. These parameters deal with Email folders,
filters, and other folders you may wish to keep Email
and Newsgroups articles in. It also deals with the
display parameters of messages and folders on the
screen. SETUP.EXE edits file POST.CFG. We strongly
encourage you to use this program to set up
parameters in the configuration file, instead of
direct editing of this file. SETUP.EXE creates file
POST.CFG if it does not exist in the subdirectory.

POST.CFG - This file contains the parameters required for
POST.EXE and NEWS.EXE. This file is plain text, but
should NOT be directly edited. Use SETUP.EXE to edit
its parameters. The parameters in this file describe
the various Email boxes you may have (vs. the Setups
in WWW.CFG which describe the ISP connections you may
have!) It describes the Newsgroup access you require
and details about the servers of Email and Newsgroups.
It is created by SETUP.EXE, if not present in the
         subdirectory where SETUP.EXE is located.

*.TPL - Template files. These files are created for you by
SETUP.EXE to set up the message templates. Each Email
box (and Newsgroup) can have a template.

POST.ADR - This is the "addressbook" file for Post/LX. The
address file is a simple ASCII file (named POST.ADR
by default). Each line in the file must contain
exactly one Email address. Other text may also appear
in the line, in addition to the Email address. If
additional text appears in the line, then the address
must be enclosed inside angular bracket symbols '<'
         and '>'. For example:

         support@dasoft.com
         D&A Information Email Address <info@dasoft.com>

The first line contains nothing but an email address,
and the enclosing angular brackets are not required.
The second line contains additional text, and the
Email address must be enclosed by the angular
         brackets.

*.I, *.I1, *.I2 - The files with these extensions contain
messages you received and their indices. DO NOT EDIT
THESE FILES! Editing may destroy their structure
resulting in unpredictable operation. ("DON'T MESS!")

*.O, *.O1, *.O2 - The files with these extensions contain
message you sent out and their indices. DO NOT EDIT
THESE FILES! Editing may destroy their structure
resulting in unpredictable operation. ("DON'T MESS!")
